dancing on the canal

Sunset on the Rhine-Herne Canal. In the background, the red bricks of the former colliery "Our Fritz" in Herne-Wanne shimmer in the light. That ´s the beauty of our region!
Along with their crews, Captain Bleich and Captain Moser cheerfully welcome all seafaring festival guests to the halftime celebration aboard the cultural ship "Frederick the Great". For this waterway between Gelsenkirchen and Herne not only connects the two cities, but also stands for the region ´s transformation from industrial location to cultural landscape. We ´ll sail past the urban quarter Graf Bismarck towards Gelsenkirchen ´s Nordstern Park with its mining tunnels and the so-called "Hall of Fame" - a 400m-long former harbour wall that glows in the colours of its graffiti. The evening draws to a musical and culinary close at the artistic colliery "Our Fritz" in Herne, which boasts, in addition to its ventilation facility and studios, an excellent beach bar.
