patron groups & home bases

the Club of the willing

The arts and culture outreach programme at WESTWIND 2016 is based on artists and audiences being able to meet each other at eye level. A focus is placed on the examination of the themes presented in the festival productions.
Inquisitive, probing, challenging.

Patron groups & home bases

Prior to the festival, patron groups of all age brackets will devote themselves to the productions invited from NRW as well as some of the international guest productions. The patron groups will do preparatory work on the themes that arise in their respective plays: They may develop scenes, take photos, paint, dance or simply ask questions and exchange opinions. The patron groups will establish their so-called home bases at both Consol Theater and Flottmann-Hallen. These home bases are special places designed by the patrons that will grow more and more as the festival progresses. It is there that the groups will meet up with the ensembles and leave behind impressions of their work. Festival audiences are welcome to visit them.

The Club of the Willing will set up its WESTWIND base camp tent in front of Consol Theater. For a whole week, Constantin Krell and Vincent Kresse from the secret dramaturgical society Geheime Dramaturgische Gesellschaft will accompany the festival with interested young people and take up unusual perspectives. They will examine the festival ´s plays and international productions with an excitingly critical eye and find plenty of ways to get involved in the programme of additional events.

The Club of the Willing seeks new questions, finds personal answers, documents, critiques and expresses itself through an array of diverse measures. Individual perspectives will take on an important role; the objective is to articulate personal desires, experiences and expectations, even for productions intended for other target audiences.

Their base camp tent will repeatedly be open to visitors, and club participants are sure to be found elsewhere at both of the festival ´s locations as well. This ensures that their thought and communication processes remain transparent. Visitors are welcome to take part in this process, get involved and express themselves.
